Umbilical Cord for a Cause

Hari and I have finally made it official. We are donating our umbilical cord at the baby's birth for stem cell research. We heard so much about this when we were in the US and could never quite understand the republican stand on not supporting stem cell research.
Back in India, it is amazing the number of life sciences labs that work on storing cord blood and working on cures for diseases.

So far according to Lifecell (the labs we are donating the cord to), the diseases that stem cells can already cure include - Acute Lukemia, Acute Anemia, B-Thallesemia and many other versions of these that I dont understand.

Some imminent cures for which trials are underway include -Diabetes, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinsons, stroke, cardiac disease and Spinal cord injusry.

Future cures could be Alzheimers and Rheumetoid arthritis.....
