It has a religious part and a social part. The religious part of course is all in Hari's court. He prayed for himself, me and the baby to be; said the Gayatri Mantra dilligently a few 100s of times, and poured a lot of 'ghee' into the holy fire.
The social part was all me. I decked up and changed saris 4 times, got bangles loaded on to my wrists by all the aunts and cousins in the family and ate and drank as much and whenever I pleased.

oh what a great reason to celebrate? is like sort of like a western baby shower but with the entire family?
