This weekend, a couple of movie theathres each in Mumbai and Delhi were showing the French movie 'Paris J'Taime' or Paris - I love you translated....
What a treat this was. The movie is a series of nine short stories (from nine different directors) featuring different people and different quartiers in Paris. I am not sure what the reason was for this movie to suddenly get released in Mumbai, not that I am complaining. I am just curious because I would love to see more of these in the future. There is a growing population of expats in Mumbai currently and anecdotally the majority of the ones I have met are French.
There was another small far fetched Indian connection (and thats enough for most Indians to latch on to :-)) to the movie. One of the nine short stories that made up the movie was directed by Gurinder Chadda, the once from Punjab and now from London director.
There were some real cameos in the movie. Some of them were typical French movie like with some fantastic direction peppered with sarcastic French humour. Then there was Gurinder Chaddas's piece - a love story between a classic french boy and an Algerian girl with a touch of a Bollywood love story (without any singing and dancing of course) and an element of diversity to it..
Another really cool piece was a Amercian aspiring actress in love with a blind French guy!!! This was very cute.
Anyway, before I divulge too much of this movie that I spoil it for you......let me tell you Its in French with English subtitles....and a must watch!
