Friends, sexism, baby gifts and more....

Dearest friends and most compatible couple to Hari and I - Nipun and Aarti were flying back to the US through Mumbai. I must take a quick pause here to note how much Nipun loves Mumbai and keeps coming back here cos he cant get enough of it.

As always, it was a blast to see Nips and Arts. Life is quite a hoot with them around. We somehow ended up noticing how much sexism existed in India (I was not the one to bring this up inspite of what you may think!) but it is true...

Men are always asked about their jobs, involved in discussion around 'the industry', 'the economy' and blah blah at social occassions. I wonder sometimes if people just forget that women have careers today as well as brains and opinions or if it is just the polite thing to do by not involving them in such discussions.

One thing Hari and I are very proud of is that we are a true 50-50 couple. So we never fail to share credit for cooking yummy food or making investment decisions and more with each other. However this has now become the butt of jokes in my own extended family. Peoples selective listening or judgemental thinking (dont know which one it is...) has made them assume that I cant cook and I drive my poor husband around to do everything around the house.....

Anyway, after comparing notes on frustrating sexist behaviours....we moved on to more cheery topics :-)

For once, I did not try to convince them to move back to Mumbai as I try to do with all my closest friends.

Finally, Nips and Arts got us our first baby gifts....which was very cute...And thankfully, I didnt react too weirdly. Looks like I am getting more and more comfortable with thinking mommy thoughts. Well, its about bloody time...I am ready to pop the baby out in 2.5 months..I jolly well be ready!

Once we stopped admiring the cute yellow winnie the pooh baby gifts, a new realization dawned on us. We have 2 cupboards in the house - both are explodingly full with Hari's stuff and mine. We certainly have no space to spare or share. So we think its time for furniture shopping!! Not so bad eh:-)?
