Ok..yeah yeah yeah - I know I havent posted anything worthwhile in a while, ok: I havent posted anything in a while..forget worthwhile.
Here is a fresh attempt to prove that there are still interesting things going in our life.
So, my dream for over 4 years now came true at the start of this year when Hari and I moved back to India. It was like turning an emotional switch on which said - You are home!
It was quite exciting to learn the ways of working life, banking life, etc in India. We had lived here all our life until we were 21 but we had never been'responsible' adults here (insert sound effect here: sneeze and say bullshit at the same time). Its always nice when life is an adventure for us thrill seeking nomads.
So I compiled a list when I was still wide-eyed about being back in Mumbai. Here goes -
The good stuff:
1. Everything gets home delivered. I mean everything - groceries, fruits, electronics, furniture, wine, bedsheets, anything...
2. Everyone has a mobile phone. The only one I know who doesnt have one is my maid
3. People talk about money quite freely. Whats your salary, how much did you pay for your house, how much are your shares worth, how much is your monthly expenses, therefore, how much is your monthlysaving. Initially, I wondered why. I tried to avoid answering. I tried to change the subject. I tried to make sarcastic jokes (of course no-one still gets my sarcasm, so I just ended up offending ppl)
4. Mothers get on board super quickly. Mothers organized food, idli ka atta, chapathi ka atta, fruits, vegetables, maid suggestions, mangoes, coffee powder, sambhar poweder chapathis, sweets, sweets, and more sweets every time they visited our place. :-) They are the sweetest. Hari was amused by it. I fought it. we both gave up and now enjoy it :-)
5. You get Feta Cheese in Mumbai (yay!). For all those of you who have known us for a while and have had dinner at our place at anytime, you know how much we love Greek Salad. And you CANT have greek salad without Feta. So Hari and I embarked on our quest to find Feta in Mumbai and thanks to helpful suggestions from fellow Bandraites (which is what we are now), we discovered Magnet hypermarket (v.cool! Also reminds me I need to talk about my favourite entrepreneur AP Mani in another post). The we met the Mumbai celebrity chef Moshe (thanks to the big fan Swapna) who graciously let us buy some feta off him in his restaurent after hearing the most amusing story about how Hari works for Yahoo and Maya works for Google (hmmph!)
Ok, so more later. The list about Mumbai will continue later.
