About Lesbos

I thought this was an interesting bit and wanted to share with you all...

Hari and I went to an art show in Brussels about the Turkish empire and its rise and fall etc..

We read this short story about a queen/ goddess in a place called Lesbos where only women lived. This Godess is known to have fallen in love with many women in Lesbos and she was thereafter admonished in society. Hari came up with an astute abservation that likely it was after this fact that the term 'lesbos' or lesbians came about. While we are yet to verify this I thought it was interesting how terms from the past take on new meanings asa society evolves.

BTW, if you havent already, the book 'The Da Vinci code' is a must read. It too talks about a number of different words and concepts from the past becoming distorted to take on new meanings in the world as we know it today....quite fascinating!
